A real look at Haunton wind farm

The factually based mock up below shows just how staggeringly big these proposals are…

Time is running out to make views known on the wind farm planned by German company ProWind at a site on the outskirts of Haunton near to Thorpe Constantine, Clifton Campville and Harlaston.

The small community living in homes at Dunnimere would be closest

Even though time is up to submit online you can send written views direct to Lichfield District Council at any time before the application is determined, probably in October, by Lichfield’s Planning Committee.

I talked with planners from Lichfield District Council, the decision makers on this application, and they say they have been inundated with letters from local people.

Agree with the principles and practicalities of onshore wind energy or not, this particular site would mean a major change to the look of the countryside around Lichfield and Tamworth for miles around.

And one small community particularly would have their lives changed forever under the shadow of these massive turbines.

In an appropriate place, away from people, I’m broadly ambivalent to wind turbines… I’m not convinced they are practical or cost effective onshore but clearly many who are far better qualified than I am to say, do.

But here, at Hoggs Hill, in one of the flattest and most picturesque areas in our county and so close to people and an historic church which would be dwarfed is not the right place. In fact, looking again at the picture, War of the Worlds springs to mind.

Application now formal for Haunton wind farm

Harlaston, Haunton, Clifton and Thorpe have been waiting for news on windfarm proposals…

The wait is now over because German company ProWind have finally submitted the full application for four massive 420 ft wind turbines just outside Haunton village.

The 420ft turbines will be seen from miles away in surrounding parishes

It’s very unwelcome news but most people thought it would eventually come. Most local people are firmly against the development and villagers have attended several public meetings to discuss the application and make plans to fight it.

And that fight is about to go up a gear with the company’s application lodged and a decision due by Lichfield District Council in around 14 weeks.

So it’s time for people in the Mease and Tame area to submit their views on the plans. In fact it’s pretty urgent and although those views will be taken into account right up to the day before the planning hearing I strongly advise it is best to make your views known by mid July.

And those views should be based on planning grounds:

Are the structures overbearing? Is there visual intrusion or harm to the character of the local landscape?

Would the structures be overbearing or dominate buildings and people living ‘close’ to the site?

Would they impact on property and outlook or mean a loss of amenity? Are you concerned about noise or light flicker?

Does the scale and size of this proposal damage the heritage and character of St Andrew’s Church as the countryside is so flat?

Are issues above outweighed by the benefit of renewable energy?

You can submit your views here. Alternatively you can do so in writing to Lichfield District Council.

Soon as possible.

Not a lot happening on wind turbines

The planning application for four massive ones near to Haunton was due to be lodged last February…

But nothing. No application and no contact from Prowind, the German company behind the development plans.

Lichfield District Council haven’t heard anything either. They are the local planning authority that will make the decision if and when an application is made. They recently turned down an application for a single slightly smaller wind turbine at Curborough on the outskirts of Lichfield.

That site is probably less sensitive than the one between Clifton Campville and Haunton where Prowind want to build. So it bodes well for the growing number of people who oppose the plans for four 400ft turbines.

But if the application does come, and I still believe it will, the campaign to oppose is ready to go again as are the near 500 people registered on my website for updates on the proposals. You can read about the strength of feeling here.
