Community
Today was a day which shows what rural communities do exceptionally well.
At lunch time I opened the Drayton Bassett Fete, something which has been going for a lot of years but has really gone ‘up a gear’ over the last few. It’s now organised by locals calling themselves the Voluntary Entertainment
Group and the turnout and weather by the time I left was looking pretty good.
A true country event with everything from welly-wanging to miniature horses and also something not quite so common in the form of a tremendous Bangra dance group organised by a local Fazeley restaurant.
And then in the evening we went to a fund raising jazz night in aid of the Elford Gardens Restoration Project, a
charity which I’m proud to be the Patron of. It’s the brainchild of a village group who have a track record for success in some pretty big local projects and are now hoping to restore, to its former 200 year old glory, the Walled Gardens in the centre of Elford.
They’ve started a Friends scheme and you can find more information on how to get involved in a variety of ways here.
