Doubts on school walk audits?

I’m having more doubts on the credibility of the County’s safety audit process aimed at deciding whether routes to schools are safe for children as young as 11 to walk.

I’ve had yet more talks with officials today and it is beoming increasingly clear that they too are now not entirely certain the process is right. I found today that the County’s Road Safety Unit haven’t been involved with individual route audits or even the basis of the process itself.

I now understand it is admin officers from the Transport Department who walk the routes and fill in a tick box form which is then assessed and a decision made by an official from the Education Department sitting at a desk in Stafford.

Hardly very credible as far as I can see. I’ve raised my concerns with Labour’s DeputyLeader and to my surprise he has asked the Cabinet Support Member for Schools to look at it afresh.

Are there doubts creeping in? It looks like it.
