I’d like to write more!

People think it’s called COBRA. Actually, the real name is Cabinet Office Briefing Room (A) and it is the committee where, in a ‘very significant’ emergency, the PM and the great and the good of national government meet to sort things out and coordinate the national approach.

Picture 001.JPGI had the privilege last week of being one of very few people to visit COBRA and learn more about how it works in times of threat. I was the only elected member of a group of ten officials from the major response agencies in the county and central England, broadly connected with the Staffordshire’s Civil Contingencies Unit (CCU).

I can’t write much about the visit unfortunately. We were there primarily to talk about the response across local and national government, and the other key agencies, to mass flooding but learned some extraordinary ’stuff’ about all manner of critical issues as well as seeing all the facility. What I would say is that the technology and ‘power’ there was awe inspiring but, above all, reassuring in many ways.

And that’s it… even though I could write so much more!
