Our soldiers past and present… give some more
Do I detect a strengthening in general support for the men and women currently fighting for Queen and country? I hope so.
Leaving the Government’s apparent default position of taking our armed forces somewhat for granted, it turns my stomach when I see or hear people cast doubt on the work they do for us and leaves me utterly beside myself with rage when I hear news of ex-servicemen being robbed for their poppy collection money… it’s not in my nature to be aggressive but on this one give me the culprits, a locked room
and a big stick… and I’ll make an exception just this once!
Agree or disagree with where our forces are sent into conflict by Government, they have no choice and everyday disregard their own safety completely and commit patriotically to do as they are told. So this year, despite our economic woes, dig that bit deeper and wear your poppy with pride and patriotism.
The work of the Royal British Legion is crucial for those British servicemen and servicewomen who have fought in dozens of conflicts in the last few decades along with the growing numbers of soldiers and dependents suffering tragedy much more recently. We owe a debt of enormous gratitude and it’s time to make a hefty repayment.
Please give a note instead of a coin to the next poppy seller you see and make that extra effort to show your respect next weekend or on the 11th. You can also donate here and also buy the fundraising X Factor Hero CD here.
One last thing. Wherever you live, in the UK or further afield, if you have the chance you should visit the new Armed Forces Memorial near to Lichfield, Staffordshire… it is impossible not to be taken aback by its size and beauty and completely impossible not to moved in a way which is unlike anything before.
