Mile Oak Youth Centre’s future

The future of the youth club at Mile Oak has been in doubt since before Christmas when the County decided that because of the latest Youth Service reorganisation there was no money for it to carry on.

I wrote before that it was deja vu because of the broken promises when the centre was built a couple of years ago. Well, I’m pleased to say that after some straight talking with the County I’ve managed to get more funding until April 2010.

The County have now allocated the same funding as last year and I’m pleased that the extra funding needed on top of that is being provided by the local Community & Learning Partnership. So, it’s good news and the Centre management can now shelve the plans they were putting together to close it down.

It would have been crackers to close it… more and more youngsters are using it and the youth club has almost certainly contributed to the reduction in anti social behaviour issues in the surrounding area.
