‘Buy Local’ initiative for Whittington
Whittington village is a place where things happen because people get together and make sure of that.
They are at the forefront battling climate change locally with the Whittington and Fisherwick Environmental Group; they have a forward looking and proactive parish council and now villagers are doing there best to beat the current economic woes with a new monthly publication persuading local people to use other local people and local businesses when something is needed or needs doing.
It makes sense and the ‘Whittington Market‘ newsletter (there is local news in it too) will be delivered to every household very soon and then monthly after that. But these things only work if people really support them so if you live in Whittington and Fisherwick and think it is a good idea, and I think you will, go for it… try to look locally first and keep businesses working and sustainable in your immediate area.
And that approach of ‘buy local’ could apply to other rural communities too. But if there’s things you can’t get in your immediate community then at least try to support Staffordshire’s economy wherever you can. One thing I’ve noticed recently is the increasing amount of fresh food which is marked as produced or grown in Staffordshire. I wrote a while ago how I liked the fact that Corwall are superb at promoting their county’s produce wherever you go in that part of the world… looks like Staffordshire is catching on, which is great news.
