Hey MPs… we gave our pay raise up!
In the last couple of weeks elected members of all political parties at both County and Lichfield District have unanimously voted not to accept the 2.45% pay increase recommended by the independent body which looks at allowances.
Although the figures involved, particularly at Lichfield District level, are comparatively small it is the message it sends that we understand the 
difficulties people are suffering financially and believe it would be wrong to even consider a tax payer funded increase.
Not so our national colleagues. MPs today voted they would take the 2.3% pay increase their version of the independent panel have recommended. With Jacqui Smith and all the other recent controversy around MP allowances on second homes and general expenses I cannot comprehend how they didn’t see this as an opportunity to show they are in touch with the outside world.
But clearly they didn’t see it that way. It gets worse!

Good grief!! Actually giving up some pay… perhaps there is hope that not all politicians live in their own little world.
Sadly for your actions the MPs taking every penny they can rather negate what is happening in your area.

Sadly I think it’s too late because our national leaders clearly have not a clue about the nation’s mindset! But well done anyway for showing some common sense here at least.
Yesterday was a disgrace. Although you may have this time done the right thing you should be ashamed of your ‘political class’. As someone who has always been middle of the road and actually pretty engaged in politics nationally and locally I’m afraid I will no longer support the main stream parties.
The rise of the independent candidate is on the way back… which is probably a very good thing.

This is just shocking. There’s no other words for it. For normal people to feel as strongly as they do over this behaviour should be a warning for all politicians!
