Hopwas School leavers in the nic of time
“The youngsters at Thomas Barnes Primary are a credit to the school and truly motivational!”
>
There’s something very special about Thomas Barnes Primary School and I was delighted to be asked again this year to present prizes at their Leavers’ Service in St Chad’s Church in Hopwas.
I nearly missed the ceremony completely! I’d been in London the night before and caught, by the skin of my teeth, the train due to get me back to Birmingham International half an hour before the church service was due to start.
But, as luck would have it, we ended up getting stuck outside Rugby for so long that the next train I would have caught if I’d missed the one I was on, got to International 20 minutes before we eventually did.
So sadly I missed giving out the prizes but did at least enjoy the final half hour or so. I did get the chance to say a few words of good wishes to the pupils who were off to ‘big’ school. It was tremendous with the church packed full of families and an atmosphere of incredible optimism and a real sense of pride in Thomas Barnes. I thought it was motivational and as I write this I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing up.
.
With the perceived problems we hear about young people, this serves as proof positive that it’s not true everywhere and the youngsters here are a credit to the school and their families and are highly likely to contribute well to our society in future.
