New tractor for Elford Garden Project
“A real picture in the summer sunshine. What a transformation by the team!”
I’ve written about the project to restore Elford Hall Walled Garden to its former glory numerous times.
It’s just over four years since the group approached me to help persuade Birmingham City Council, who hold the land and property in charitable trust, to allow the project to take place.
Well, a few years on what a transformation with more and more local people wanting to play a part in the continued restoration. It’s a big area and as the undergrowth and rubbish has cleared away over the months the grassed area has got bigger and bigger… as well as incredibly attractive.
So big in fact that the big guns needed bringing in. Those big guns are in the form of 1940s traditional, in full working order, farm tractor. Not the bright red sit on mower for this group, no, something much more in keeping with the surroundings.
And I’m delighted to offer some financial help from the County’s new Local Community Fund which was set up in an expanded form by the new Administration in Stafford following the June’s election. One thing I’m sure of is that the various grants I’ve provided for the Gardens Project have been turned into something amazing and of great value to the local community as well as really important historically.
