Drayton primary school… a tremendous place
“One of the best bits of my work is visiting truly motivational schools in my patch”
And so I was delighted to get the chance to visit the Manor Primary School at Drayton Bassett near Tamworth this week.
Bright as you go in, an uplifting atmosphere and an amazingly comfortable and friendly feel to the whole place. And what a bunch of youngsters too.
I visited a class that was looking at the very basics of learning the alphabet using hi-tec white boards and another which was working out the correct way to reply to different sorts of letters they’d received.
The third class I visited was encouraging the children to write the opening passages of books in a specific style similar to other books they had recently read. A pretty tough ask for many adults but the kids I sat down with were making light work of it.
The best part of all was that whilst clearly learning some really important lessons they were very obviously enjoying doing it. Very uplifting to see such polite and cheerful young people… acredit to the school!
I was so impressed I’ve asked the school if they would like to join me in the County Chamber in Stafford for a special Democracy event which helps primary school age children understand how we run our country and county.
They’ve said yes and best of they’ll end up as stars because this special event will be filmed for Staffordshire County TV and put on the website.

Matthew, you were brilliant when you did this for the kids from Thomas Barnes in Hopwas a couple of years ago at LDC. The kids really enjoyed it. Highlight of my working year that was!
