Double Celebration for Local Group
With her fiftieth anniversary as a member of the management committee at Whittington Village Hall fast approaching, Mrs Jamie Jamison and other committee members are now also celebrating successfully raising the funds to complete a major modernisation and overhaul of the hall’s catering facilities.
After 10 years of fund raising the original building was built in the 1960s. Since then it has seen significant improvements and is one of the most used community buildings in the area.
Mrs. Jamison said,
“I’ve seen many changes to the village during my lifetime but the village hall remains as popular now as it always has. We’re all delighted that in a short while the kitchen facilities will be as good as the rest of the hall”.
The work has been funded from money set aside by the hall committee as well as grants from the Central Midlands Co-Op and the area’s County Councillor, Matthew Ellis, under the Local Members’ Initiative Scheme.
Matthew commented,
“Over a dozen community organisations have benefited from my Local Members’ Scheme recently. In many cases the initial funding has led to more grants being obtained. I think its great that despite onerous responsibilities with red tape and licensing, village halls in our area are going from strength to strength. The shear effort and hard work that so many community groups put in is something to be applauded”.
