HS2(Rail)

High Speed Rail will bring no benefit to Staffordshire and should be dropped nationally. That’s the view of Staffordshire’s County Council…

Lichfield and Tamworth are faced with a major environmental threat in the form of High Speed Train which will continue northwards through three more district council areas as it heads out of Staffordshire.

The proposed line runs from London north through the UK skirting Tamworth to the west and Lichfield to the east.

That means it it potentially affects the areas of, and around, Drayton Bassett, Hints, Swinfen, Packington, Canwell, Weeford and Whittington. Trains would pass through at up to 250mph and continue northwards until leaving Staffordshire on to Manchester and Scotland, in future phases.

The economic case is flawed in many economist’s view and at an initial cost for HS2 phase of £500 to every UK household rising to £2500 for the whole scheme there are other more affordable options to increase rail capacity.

In the first 24 hours after launching my e-mail update on HST for people living in the area I represent nearly 400 individuals registered. That’s doubled to over 800. You can read more on High Speed Train HERE.

If you live in the area I represent and would like email updates from me regarding the High Speed Train proposals please click here and complete the form putting HST in the SUBJECT and Where you Live in the MESSAGE.

It is vital that the areas and parish councils affected work together or at least allign approaches and efforts.
