My grant funding scheme

Every Member of the County has an allocation of grant funding that can be used to benefit communities in his or her County area. It is called the Local Members’ Initiative Scheme. One of the most enjoyable aspects of my role is to allocate that funding.

Broadly speaking, any community group in the following areas can apply to me for funding:

Bonehill, Canwell, Clifton Campville, Comberford, Drayton Bassett, Edingale, Elford, Fazeley, Fisherwick, Harlaston, Haunton, Hints, Hopwas, Swinfen, Thorpe Constantine, Weeford, Whittington and Wigginton.

I believe it is a real opportunity to focus money where it will do the most good, at grass roots level. Ideally I try to allocate help where it will trigger more external funding; to pump prime bigger funding streams. That said, as long as it is benefiting the local area and community, I will consider most ideas.

There are no fixed limits on individual awards; the largest I have given to date is just under £4000 and the smallest £80. The application period is between May and November each year and funds, although significant, are not limitless.
